Spirits, including whiskey, brandy, gin, and tequila, can be great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Ideal Party Store has a liquor store open in two locations, Johnson St. and Salzburg Ave., in Bay City, Michigan. We have a broad selection of fine spirits for you to choose as a gift for friends and family. Here are four spirits that make great gifts:
Whiskeys
With ingredients including barley, corn, rye, and wheat, whiskey distillation derives from a mash and mixed with various ingredients using specific recipes. Whiskey is a great gift for the casual sipper who enjoys tasting the many flavor notes that come from the mash and barrel aging process. We have a liquor store open with a large selection of bourbons, scotches, and other whiskeys to choose from.
Each distiller makes bourbons from a corn mash with other grains added according to the recipe. True bourbons come from the state of Kentucky and spend time aging in a charred American oak barrel. We have a special selection of store-picked barrels available, making it a special gift.
Scotches are only made in Scotland, with distillers using their own mix of barley and wheat for the mash. An extra ingredient for scotch is peet, found on the shores of Scotland, aged in used bourbon barrels, giving it a distinctive smoky flavor note. Some distillers will blend various scotch whiskeys for specific flavors.
Other whiskeys can include Irish and Tennessee varieties, which we have many of to choose from for anyone who has a favorite brand. Distillers in Ireland use many different recipes and barrels for their spirits, but they should come from Ireland. Tennessee whiskey is similar to bourbon, with the difference being that theyfilter the spirit through charcoal to get its distinctive flavor.
Vodka
Authentic distilled vodkas come from potato mash, and others use various grains. Russia is the birthplace of vodka, but it is now distilled all over the world. There is no aging process for vodka going straight to the bottle, keeping its clear color and neutral flavor, making it great for mixed drinks. Many vodkas are flavored with vanilla, raspberry, and cream. Ideal Party store has a great selection of vodkas and special drink mixers to give as gifts.
Gin
A grain mash distills to make Gin and includes using juniper berries and other botanicals like coriander seed, licorice root, and lavender for flavoring. This gives gin a distinct earthy and floral flavor that will also blend well with mixers like vodka. At our store, we carry celebratory bottles of gin like Bombay Saphire or Tanqueray.
Tequila
Tequila has three variations depending on the type of agave plant used for distillation and if it’s barrel-aged. Silver and gold tequilas are distilled from the blue agave plant; silver is not aged, and gold is. Mezcal uses various agave plants like agave espadín or tepeztate.
